Since the introduction of the minivan, the Chrysler soap opera has included some successful products (like the 1994 Dodge Ram pickup and 2005 Chrysler 300 sedan) and some truly awful ones (the Chrysler Sebring convertible). But the story has mostly been about acquisitions, dispositions, overwhelming debt and shotgun corporate mergers. The high-value message has been lost. By hooking up with Fiat, Chrysler might be able to return to its solid, unpretentious and somewhat dorky tradition.
