This is one I’m sure jSchwa has told me about more than once, so I figured it was time to give it a go.
Firefox, of late, has been doing really weird stuff for me, and just running very slow. To be honest, I’ve never been happy with Firefox under Leopard. It’s slow to load, pages are slow to open and it’s very crashy. Sure, I could run Safari, but I just can’t get passed the way it handles external links and tabs.
From the Camino site.
Camino combines the awesome visual and behavioral experience that has been central to the Macintosh philosophy with the powerful web-browsing capabilities of the Gecko rendering engine. Built and tested by thousands of volunteers, Mozilla’s Gecko brings cutting-edge innovations and capabilities to users in a standards-friendly and socially responsible form.
What that means to me (and you) is that it’s basically a native version of Firefox for the Mac. Well, not quite, but pretty close.
It supports extensions, but there are far fewer than you can find for Firefox. It has tabs with better controls than Safari. It blocks ads and popups right from the get go. Heck, it even reads feeds.
But most importantly, it’s fast. And equally important, it works a lot like Firefox does.
Sure, I tried Flock too. What a painful experience. Besides, I don’t need my browser to do all of that. It’s cool to be sure, but there is too much going on and it’s even slower and crashy’r than FireFox.
For the whole week (just like I’ve done with Safari), I will only use Camino for my browsing, relegating Firefox to being my FTP client since I can’t get FireFTP for Camino (yes, I checked). I’ll report back and let you know what I think.
Mac Users running Super Duper, in case you missed it, there is an update! You can get it here. I will be updating that today as soon as their bandwidth limit has been reset. Oh yea, I’ve already updated my 8 Wordpress sites to 2.3.3, have you?

[...] Yes, Camino. The browser. The one that, according to everyone, used to kinda suck. The same one I talked about last week. It’s as close to getting a version of Firefox updated for Leopard that you will find. [...]
