The more that is dug up, the more I question the moral ethics of the folks that run the detail shop. I know some of it is habit, but still. For example:

The detail shop practices the art of tip pooling for the lads that actually detail the cars. For those of you that aren’t familiar with this term, it is the practice of collecting earned tips and then splitting them up after work is completed. The is more often than not practiced by bartenders and banquet servers. Usually the money all goes into a box or something similiar and then it is split up at the end of the night.

At the detail shop, it doesn’t work quite the same way. Instead, the tips are collected for the ENTIRE year, and then divied up to the guys, I would suppose whether they worked the whole year or not. No good.

If I had to guess, the owner of the shop used to use this as his own personal slush fund. I have no idea how he managed to pay it back at the end of the year tho.

During my span of work, I’ve worked with some seedy characters. I’ve seen things that were bad, but never like this. There are other monetary discrepancies that are just now coming to light over there. Should be interesting to see what happens.
