The Sunday Post 50

Wow, the big five-o! Makes me want to surf or book somebody.

Updates, Upgrades and Uniques

I’m starting to serious wonder about my resume writing skills. No kidding, I have sent over 40 copies out in the last 3 week without so much as a nibble. Working on a re-write this week, but if anyone has any tips or pointers, please feel free to leave a note below.

As soon as I hit Publish here, I’m going to the gym. This is worthy of posting since I haven’t been since the weekend before MTTS. I managed to catch something that week and was congested and 1/2 deaf (yes, again). It’s finally cleared up, so I’m going. 3 weeks is a long time, and it’s going to be tough getting back into it.

Secretly, I want an iPhone. Not so secretly I don’t want to be an AT&T customer.

I’m still upset about missing the New Media Expo. Cool stuff happened there from what I could tell from the tweets and video posts I saw. I’ll have to try again next year.

I am extremely pleased with the way the new sites have turned out. And the redo on WRR (if you haven’t noticed). Helps keep the self confidence up. All new sites should go live this week.

I have a feeling a new computer will be purchased in the next couple of weeks. It will be for either myself or my Grandfather. I hope it’s me. 15″ MBP or 20″ iMac would be keen. Not sure I want to edit video or help Grandpa relearn his computer with Vista. And, since I will be doing all of the editing…

I hate that Wordpress releases a dot update a month after a new version. I need to figure out how to script Transmit to handle that all at once. Also not happy that the photo feature of “Press This” still doesn’t work for me. Although, they said it’s fixed for IE7.

I have a baby shower and wedding happening in the same weekend. One Saturday, the other on Sunday. Oh, and they are 1,000 miles apart. Wedding wins if I can swing it, otherwise a trip to Vegas will be in order.

Which would be good, since I need to get to the resort for maintenance and checking of things. Big upgrade might be coming their way after the first of the year.

Church bus full of screaming kids just drove by. That was weird.

Just so you know, you can count yourself among the 1,500 or so w(t)f readers. Sure, not huge numbers, but I’m still fairly pleased. Thanks for stopping by. Don’t forget, you can subscribe to get the posts easier. Don’t worry, I’ll let you know if there is something worth click back about.

After I take the new sites live, I will be able to get started on The Hollywood Car Show site. Go ahead and click it if you want, should be a placeholder page there. I think by the end of the week it should be up and running.

Ok, that’s it. Time to start my day. Have a great Sunday everyone!

The Jesus phone, how you annoy me

Ok ok ok already. I know I am the only person on the planet to not have an iPhone or iPod touch now. That might be a big part of my annoyance.

You see, just about everything I read anymore has the word iPhone in it. Post after post after post after mother f’ing post is about the iPhone. Testing a new app in the iPhone or just doing something that is tagged uploaded/posted/tested/lovingly created on my iPhone.

It’s annoying. I know y’all have a brand new shiny toy to play with, so I’ll try to be understanding. But honest to robot ninjas gang if it keeps up much longer it’s going to be a whole lot easier to go through my feeds every morning, and my iPod will be practically devoid of podcasts.

It’s a cool device to be sure. I’ll give you that. Just hurry up and get used to it already won’t you? I’m honestly tired of hearing about it.

Getting to the top

It would appear that some iPhone developers are a little upset.

It seems several different companies have renamed their iPhone games to begin with either a space, a quotation mark, or some other symbol so that they appear first in the list of 197 games on the iPhone portal to the App Store.

Really? It’s good thing they don’t advertise in the yellow pages.

I’ve actually worked with people like this. Had a domain name that started off with 3 A’s because he thought it would help him get to the top. Idiot.

And, this is no different than the way iTunes handled podcasts when it first started. Before there were categories or any organization, you would pull up a list that was complete rubbish at the top with all of the silly names starting with all manner of punctuation, the letter A and spaces. Most of those shows are gone now, as you can imagine.

But, really, make good software. Promote it on your web site. Link to it on your website. Encourage your customers to spread the word. Something.

Just don’t get all pissy because someone is thinking they are being clever because they are faking out the system. Sheesh. Pull your skirt up already Alice.

Besides that, I just checked the app store and I didn’t see any of that silliness. Maybe the good folks at the apple store decided they didn’t want your panties to get in a bunch so they fixed it for you.

Now that’s power

Leo Laporte just finished his 24 hours of iPhone coverage.

24 hours.

Over at Twitlive.tv, for those of you that don’t know, he broadcasts all of his podcasts via video live, plus a few extra things. Besides the iPhone coverage, he is currently building the ultimate gaming PC, 1 component at a time. When it’s done, he’ll be giving it away to a lucky viewer.

But, back to the iPhone.

Like I said, he just finished. Dare to guess how many viewers were watching when he was done? 7115. Yes, over 7,000 viewers. I tuned in last night at around 9:30 and he had over 6,800. That is truly amazing.

iPhone + Leo = unstoppable?

Ok, which of you suckers bought one?

New iPhone - Who’s gonna get one?

The more I read/hear about the new 3G iPhone, the more I’m convinced that AT&T is not the wireless provider for me and feel bad for all of those suckers people that are about to get one because it’s cheaper than the original.

I was also looking at a coverage map for AT&T’s 3G coverage. It looks pretty sparse.

(blue is better)

Like I said, pretty sparse. In comparison, Verizon’s highspeed network coverage looks a little better, but not by much.

(again, blue is better)

So, with the not-that-great of coverage and the extra expense in getting the phone (1 iPhone account costs more than what I pay for 2 phones on Verizon without data), I wonder how many of these are going to sell.

(Read on…)
