Watchin’ TV tonight as the kids manned (kidded?) the door for treat or treaters. It was one of the major news guys interviewing Kerry and Bush, talking about this, that and the other thing. The one thing that kept popping up and really kinda bothered me was the focus on what has already happened. The war. The economy. Jobs. Blah. Blah. Blah.
While I know the importance of history, shouldn’t we be more focused on what the candidate is going to do? What is going to be done about the war? What is going to done about the economy? What is going to be done about jobs? What is going to be done about blah?
It seems lately that I am surrounded by people that spend too much time and energy focusing on what has already happened. Looking for someone to blame. Looking for a cure for their ills. Looking for reasons for anything. Why can’t anyone own up to whatever their problems are, suck it up and make a plan for them to get fixed? I know that whatever happened yesterday already happened and there isn’t a damned thing I can do to change that. If something I did yesterday was a mistake and made something for me more difficult today, then I have to look forward to tomorrow to fix it. It doesn’t do me any good to look back at yesterday and say “Well, the sun got in my eyes so I had to turn right instead of left”, when I should be looking right now at the sunglass store to get a new pair of sunglasses, right?
History is good. But it already happened. Move along already, the rest of us are waiting.
