Why am I here?
So, the last time we met was about 8 days ago. That was roughly 2 days after the last big storm. Some things to note…
~Since last Monday I have spent over 40 hours commuting from southwest Riverside County to Central OC
~More swift water rescues have happened. Why are we saving these people? I say leave ‘em to the Darwin Awards people.
~Someone really hit the lets-piss-off-db switch at the office. I’m honestly starting to think they are doing it on purpose and to that end resumes are going out like spam.
~State of California put a man to death. His only request was a glass of pineapple juice. For sure I would have gone for a Double Double and a King Fat Combo, but that’s just me.
So, to the lame ass commute of mine. I live in Lake Elsinore. For those of you not familiar with the town it is the piece of shit car capitol of SoCal and I believe we have more meth labs per capita than any other city within’ a 200 mile radius. Quite impressive to be sure, matched only by it’s geographic location. As the brochures say “Nestled in the shadows of the Cleveland National Forest…” which is to say the town is located approx. 1 hour north of downtown San Diego and about the same distance from Pasadena (on good traffic days, both counts). While it’s really not as bad as I make it out to be, there is 1 small problem. To get out of this valley to go either west or north there are only 2 routes. The first is to take I15 north to SR91w (yes, that 91). That’s ok, except that route is used by well over 500,000 other drivers, and almost all of them at the same time.
The other way out is via SR74, aka Ortega Hwy. While not the fastest way from point a to b, traffic moves and there isn’t as much of it. This road supports, if I had to guess, more than 10K cars a day. There are ways south (I15) and east (I215 and SR74), but to use either of these routes to get to the OC would take the better part of the day, so they aren’t really practical.
Anway, the last big band of storms that rolled through here did a little bit of damage to Ortega Hwy. To the tune of 2 weeks worth of repairs, if I’m lucky.
I honestly don’t know how much longer I can do the 3-hour-each-way commute. It’s killin’ me.
