This weekend is the Portable Media Expo at the Ontario convention center. The who’s who of podcasting usually shows up for a giant weekend long part, or so I have heard.
This year, to kind of kick off the event, there was a PodCamp. They have these throughout the country and usually last a weekend or so. This one being the day before the event, it only lasted a day. And, in my opinion, could have been better, at least for me.
I was thinking it would be more of a group type thing. People gathered together talking about different things that related to creating, displaying or promoting content. Not so much. Instead, it was an endless line of speakers from 10:30 until 5:00 with only 1 30 minute break in between.
I’m sure that most people people might have gotten something out of it and I’m sorry to say that I wasn’t one of them. Oh well, it was worth the experience and I did get to meet a few people and help a few more with some Wordpress tips.
This was also a first for me. Not only did have the best tan out of everyone there, but I was also one of the few that didn’t have a ponytail! Yea, kinda like being a Linux UG meetup or something. It was very foreign to me and I was slightly uncomfortable.
Looking like I will be going back on Sunday for sure to catch the Ask A Ninja guys doing the keynote in the morning, then checking out the convention floor. I might go out Saturday too, just depends on how I’m feeling.
Oh yea, I did record a little something on the drive out. I should be able to get that posted tomorrow sometime.
Or, it’s-been-so-long-I-had-to-log-in-again.
The podcast
I’ll start with the latest episode of the w(t)f podcast. It’s actually a week old and the last one I’m going to be doing for a while. I explain it in the show, but here is a short list of reasons:
- Sound quality - I know y’all like the shows from the MINI, but I can’t stand to listen to them myself because I think they sound so poor
- Topic quality - I’m not vain enough to talk about myself on a podcast as the primary topic, which is the direction it was heading in
- Work flow - This show had to be easy. Record, mix down, upload done. While it was easy to do, if I forgot my memory card reader, then the show didn’t happen.
- Consistency - I wasn’t able to come up with a regular schedule for this show. I know, from previous experience, that this is a big deal. You can say otherwise, but you would be lying
I’m sorry it didn’t work out. I really want to do another show, but not in the format that I have just experimented with. I will revist this again at another time, but something with more user interaction and something with audio quality I would be happy with.

iPods and updates
I want to take a minute to thank those of you that contributed to the Lad’s iPod fund! It really meant a lot to him and myself, that there are people out there nice enough to want to help. Thank you!
He thinks that money went toward the purchase of a new bike. ha ha. It’s actually still sitting in my paypal account for 2 more weeks. At which point, I will surprise him with a new one, sort of a back to school surprise. Don’t tell him, ok?
I still have to get another copy of my drivers license. I have had a few automotive issues that needed to be resolved first. I’m hopeful that I will be able to get it taken care of this week. There is an alternate DMV on my way to work that usually isn’t very busy, so I’m going to try to hit them up one day on my drive in.
That’s about it for now. The ‘rents are here until Wednesday, so you know I’ll have something really good to post!

Even though I kept calling it #6…
A little talk about backup, upcoming upgrades for the macbook and school prep for the lad.
The new drive hasn’t been installed yet, but everything is backed up and I’m ready to do it. It’s a Fujitsu 120GB 5400 RPM drive. It was cheap (less than $100) which is why I went 5400 instead of 7200RPM (those drives are expensive).
