A few things that have been bouncing around in my head so far this month. You can call this a preview to possible upcoming posts.
- I’ve made 3 episodes of the w(t)f podcast. And then deleted them.
- I have thoughts about the MacBook Air. Check out the show to hear it.
- Because Verizon doesn’t know how to take my money, I’ve gone without TV for the last 2 weeks. Other than not having Speed Channel, I don’t think we’ve really missed it.
- If you watch my del.icio.us feed, you probably have noticed 3 houses for rent in my area. I look at one Friday. I’m actually a little excited.
- I need to carry my camera more often. I think I might just start leaving it in the MINI
- Speaking of, it’s really making me nervous depending on a car with 180K miles. I need a serious influx of cash!
- I would have a very difficult time, based on name alone, taking President Huckabee serious. That’s tragic
- $800 won’t help. Why can’t people look more long term?
- Teh lad aced all but 1 final (math, got a B). I really hope his report card doesn’t suck.
- The rents are coming back this weekend. I really need to move, sooner than later. I’m seriously in their way and it’s causing me guilt. That’s about it for now. More to follow.
Things, bad things, unpleasant things, things that are annoying or a pain in the ass, always seem to happen to me in threes. Maybe not in the same day, but the same week or two at least. I just finished up a spell.
One
I have a bathroom in the garage. It’s my bathroom. Nobody else uses it, really. The dullard that did the plumbing in this particular room wasn’t too bright as he somehow connected the toilet drain to the shower drain. So, if there is a problem with the toilet, it usually backs up into the shower. I’m going to leave you with that visual for a moment while I move on to…
Two
Load up the washing machine. Turn it on, walk away. Check back a few hours later to find a bin full of very wet, soapy clothes. Great, the rinse and spin cycle stopped working. Some fiddling, some phone calls and finally, all by my wittle self, I figure out what the problem was by accidently leaning on the door, which triggered the rinse cycle. At least it’s an easy, and relatively cheap, fix. Unlike…
Three
Have you ever lost power steering in your car? I’m not talking about driving a car that doesn’t have power steering in the first place since they usually have skinny tires and 3′ diameter steering wheels. I mean lose power steering in a car that already had power steering. Oh, you have? How about on a twisty, curvy, mountain road? Yea, that’s what I thought. Serious, and expensive, pain in the ass. Stuff like this makes me wish I was in the position to buy a new car. Sheesh.
I might be on TV tonight. The good news is my television is currently out because Verizon is stupid and doesn’t know how to properly take my money. The bad news is that I’ll miss so I won’t be able to tell you just how awful it really is. Dang.
To the Flickr.
It really all started last March or so when I got my new camera. Then, Tim hooked me up with a Pro account (Thanks!). Then MINI United got the big numbers rolling in, followed by media day for Fireballed and Street Tuner Challenge (hey, I’m gonna be on TV too!).
Anyway, pretty cool to hit the milestone. Here are a few of my personal favorites, in case you missed them the first time around.
Even more after the jump. Weeeeee! (Read on…)
Here’s one I’m sure you’ll like. This is one of the most flexible sauces I know of, and it’s green. Win win in my book. Ready? Here we go!
Tomatillo Salsa
Tomatillos are a green, tomato like vegetable wrapped in a paper-like skin with very sticky flesh. The flavor is like a very tart, but slightly sweet, lime. Green tomato could be substituted, but I’ve never tried it.
This is one of my best recipes. Easy, fast and the results are very flexible.
- 1lb (about 5 or 6 medium sized) Tomatillos, skins removed and rinsed.
- 1/4 yellow onion cut into 1″ pieces
- 1 jalepeno, stem removed
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 bunch cilantro, chopped fine
- 1 tomato, diced
- Salt and pepper
- juice of 1 lime
In a small sauce pot get some water boiling. Add the tomatillos, jalepenos, garlic and onion and cook them for about 5-10 minutes. The tomatillos will turn slightly brown and get very soft.
Add everything except the tomato and cilantro to a blender and blend until smooth, about 10 seconds. You aren’t trying to frappe here, just break everything down. After the blend, add your tomatoes and cliantro and stir by hand!
Use this for sauce for chicken enchiladas or roast pork. Mix it equal parts with mayo (or plain yogurt) for the best tartar sauce you have ever had. Chill it over night and use it as a dip for chips.
You can also blend all of the ingredients raw. My personal opinion on that is not as high as it tends to be a little to tart for my tastes.
No, not to Windows. At least not yet anyway. I think I’m going to switch back to OSX Tiger. Well, maybe not. I’m having some really strange things happen that never happened with Tiger. Like…
- Battery life sucks. I used to get close to 4 hours of use without having to go on the juice. Now it’s about an hour, maybe. And my battery is less than a year old.
- Skype won’t stay connected. Actually, I think I might have this one fixed. I had to reinstall Leopard to fix it, but it was broken since I upgraded. This is a major thing for me, as most of you know.
- Performance has dropped off. Slow slow slow. Apps are slow to start. OSX is slow to boot. Apps are slow to quit (if they even quit).
- Shutting down. Odd, but when I go to shutdown I expect that to happen. At least once a week the screen goes blank but it stays running. I actually have to power it off at the switch.
- MAMP and VMWare have been acting weird. VMWare has also been slow to start, won’t let me shutdown even the appliance isn’t running and other weirdness. MAMP has been acting up lately as well, saying it’s running, but not really and only a reboot fixes it.
All of these problems did not exist before I upgraded. All of the apps I’m running are the lately greatest and updated for Leopard. All updates are current. I haven’t even installed office because it’s such a pig.
Or maybe I will do 1 more clean install of Leopard first. I’d hate to give up spaces. I will keep you posted.
