I know what I said in my last post, but I will share one of my goals with you on this eve of the new year.
I started this year, I think, at around 300lbs.
I’m starting the next year at 255lbs.
I was hoping for 250. I know it’s only 5lbs, but I was close. Damn close. My scale actually read 253 the week of Christmas, but I couldn’t get to the gym at all that week, and Christmas food beat my will power 2:1. I know I will probably see 250 in about another week or so if I keep hitting the gym regular.
Ah, yes, but my goal. By the time I’m officially an ‘old guy’ (hey, old guys rule!) in 162 days I want my scale to tell me 220lbs. that’s 30lbs in 5 months and 10 days. Totally doable I think. Should be expecially easy since my gym is now 5 miles closer. Just opened a few days ago and I’m just crazy enough to start using it as early as tomorrow!
There are a few more, but I’m going to keep them to myself.
I would like to end this year with a quick thanks to all y’all for dropping by. And leaving comments. And checking out my photos. And providing feedback. And helping with stupid Mac stuff. And making me laugh. Especially the making me laugh part. You guys are awesome! Ok, you gals are pretty keen too.
Hope you had a great night and here’s to an even better 2008!
Number 29: Don’t make resolutions
Time to start thinking about the New Year gang. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but it is time. And, don’t worry, no ‘best of’ list on wtf, no sir. If you want a list, I’m sure I’ll have one or two posted on one of the other sites.
I’m here to tell you today to not make any New Year Resolutions.
Resolutions are for New Years Eve parties. You tell everyone you are going to exercise more, go on a diet, stop smoking, be more organized or whatever. You don’t actually do any of those things past the middle of January anyway, but it sounds good when you talk to you friends. So, why bother? I know I don’t, and haven’t for a very long time. Resolutions are a complete waste of time.
I gave up on them a while ago. About the same time I realized that I never stuck with them. That’s ok, I do something else instead that seems to work out pretty well.
Sure, I’ll tell you this, that or the other thing are my resolutions, my hands behind my back and fingers crossed. But in reality, I have already assembled a complete list in my head that I will probably never share with you. Personal goals if you like. Stop smoking might be on that list. As might being more organized. But do you think I’m going to share that with you? Oh no.
Mine are promises, to myself, to do things different. To affect change in my life. To make things better where possible. Oddly enough, there is more pressure because I really hate letting myself down or not hitting goals I set for myself. Bonus is that I don’t have to get any grief from anyone about working on something (or not hitting a goal) because nobody knows about it.
Instead, I get to make a list of things I actually accomplished in the previous year and look like a hero, keeping to myself the things I didn’t accomplish to carry over into the next year.
I only had 4 this year. 2 I hit, 2 I didn’t, but it wasn’t for my lack of trying.
- Get healthy. More on this tomorrow
- Stop smoking. This has been moved to the very top of my short list.
- Triple the number of listeners to the show. Oh yea.
- Get work closer to home. More on this in the coming months.
Am I upset that I still smoke? Every time I light up. About not having a job closer to home? Everyday I spend 4 hours in the MINI. So, they get added to the list for ‘08 for me to make another go. Hopefully this time they will stick!
I’m not sure if I have mentioned this recently, but I will, very soon, be in the process of moving.
The ‘rents are actually counting the days until Dad retires. They have it 100% planned out and can. Not. Wait. And, since I live in their house, time to move.
I’ve thought about moving out of state. Did a little job hunting even in another state (but that will be another post) to see what’s what. But, there isn’t anything there for now, so I’m stuck here. Well, the Lad is also in his Sophomore year in high school, which weighs quite heavily on my decision.
I’m hoping to find something close to where I am now. Not so I can be closer to Mom and Dad, but I really like this area. There are only a few places that I would live that are 5 miles or less to the lad’s school, and this is one of them.
More as the situation develops. Keep an eye on the twitter for random house hunting stuff.
Oh, and remember me if you might be looking to do some shopping at Amazon.com. See the search box over there? I’m gonna need the money!
Did you see this?
Warner Music has bent beneath the force of the anti-DRM winds sweeping the globe. The label will now offer its complete catalog, DRM-free, through Amazon’s new MP3 store. Related Stories
The announcement means that EMI, Universal, and Warner now offer their catalogues in DRM-free digital formats, making Sony BMG (of rootkit fame) the lone holdout among the majors. Amazon now claims to offer for than 2.9 million songs in MP3 format from over 33,000 unique labels.
More and more I find myself buying from Amazon instead of iTunes. It’s easy, the price is the same (or cheaper…did I mention all the Holiday tracks I found for free?), the quality is better and no DRM.
Did I mention that the ENTIRE Led Zepplin catalog was recently added to Amazon. Just like iTunes, but higher quality and no DRM.
I think I’ll stick with Amazon for a while. Works just fine with my iPod.

Yea, Christmas is over. Let’s get on with it, shall we? Well, I will be polite and at least ask if you scored some good loot. I did ok, getting a set of Jersey knit sheets for me, plus some nifty flashlights.
Last week I discovered a new app from someone. Maybe in a del.icio.us feed, I really don’t recall. If it was you, thanks! Anyway, it’s called Fluid (don’t search for this on Google. They don’t like it) and, from the website, here is what it does.
Are you a Gmail, Facebook, Campfire or (Insert Your Favorite Webapp Here) fanatic? Do you have 20 or more browser tabs open at all times? Are you tired of some random site or Flash ad crashing your browser and causing you to lose your (say) Google Spreadsheets data in another tab?
If so, Site Specific Browsers (SSBs) provide a great solution for your webapp woes. Using Fluid, you can create SSBs to run each of your favorite webapps as a separate desktop application. Fluid gives any webapp a home on your Mac OS X desktop complete with Dock icon, standard menu bar, and logical separation from your other web browsing activity.
I’ve been told this has been done before with less than stellar results. But alas, I’ve only been a mac guy for about 8 months, so I know nothing of what came before. Basically what it does is allow you to open a single website in an app like window. Google apps, gmail, wp-admin, facebook, whatever.
More after the jump. Deal with it.
