Big sale at the Apple store yesterday.
$11 off iPods and $101 off some Macs. Yawn.
Yesterday I took my 1 pound coffee can full of coins to the coinstar machine. I’ve spoken about the joy and wonder of this machine before. Except now it’s better.
You can dump in coins and get back cash for US8.5 cents on the dollar. Really, not a bad deal.
Or, you can get all of it back if you get a gift card. Starbucks, iTunes, Amazon. All the biggies are represented. You can’t mix and match tho.
Anyway, I’m there with my 1 pound Trader Joes coffee can. Full of coins. And some pocket lint. There might have been the odd screw there too. And a paper clip.
As the coins slid and whirred their way into the machines coffers, I was thinking I had about $80. Boy was I surprised. Here is the breakdown.
dollars: 1 quarters: 400 dimes: 328 nickels: 184 pennies: 674
For a grand total of $149.74. Not to shabby eh? Got it as an Amazon gift card.
Took it to Amazon. Picked up an 8GB Nano. Only cost me about $39. Now THAT’s a sale.
For those of you in the States that get today off to watch football and eat, what I am now hearing, 4500 to 5000 calories, Happy Thanksgiving.
So put on the elasti-pants, head over to where ever it is you head over too and have a great day! Enjoy the bonus day off you have tomorrow too, if you get it. Don’t spend it at a mall this year. No no no. I mean, malls are so 20th century. Shop the internets instead. Easier to park, less traffic and sometimes better pricing. I know my Amazon wishlist is loaded up and ready for me to start pressing the ‘buy now’ button. Just waiting to see the deals at the Apple store tomorrow before I start pullin’ any triggers.
Have a great day y’all. Even you not in the States. Have a nice coffee today or something.
I’m not really sure how I landed on this particular youtube page, but I did.
Yo Yo Ma. Brilliant cellist to be sure.
Bobby McFerrin. Brilliant, um, you now, what he does.
Mix the two together for a childhood classic.
Can someone please take a moment to explain to me the benefits of blocking your telephone number from caller ID services? It seems like voodoo and tin-foil hat type stuff to me, but what do I know.
There are only 3 reasons why I don’t answer my phone.
- I’m on another call BTW…don’t keep calling me when I send you to voicemail unless you or someone very close to you is either dead or dying.
- I’m driving I can not find a head set that works while I’m driving. Might have something to do with the fact that the MINI is almost as lound as a NASCAR on the highway. Regardless, I’ve taken to not talking on my phone when I’m driving.
- The number shows up on my display as BLOCKED or RESTRICTED. What are you hiding from? Why don’t you want me to have your telephone number? Are you afraid I might call you back?
So, if you are one that blocks your number during outbound calls, fill me in here. Seems pretty stupid to me.
I was poking around the iterwebs today and came across a very interesting write-up over at Apple Matters. Here is the complete story.
I agree with the article 100%, especially the following.
1. Ignorance Ignorance is merely a lack of knowledge, and when it comes to Macs, most Windows users, myself included, are extremely uninformed. My experiences with Macs were mostly pre-OS X, before the really good stuff began to happen, and I made a decision that Macs were not for me and never looked back. Many Windows users think they’ll have to “re-learn everything” and that nothing will be familiar.
I had that exact feeling the first time I used a modern Mac. And it is the same reason I am unable to convince anyone in my sphere of influence to switch.
8. Mac Users Okay, I’m not talking about you or me here, but there are some Mac users out there who have just a little too much love for Apple. When they are shouting (or typing in all caps) about how much better Macs are, they’re not convincing anyone to switch, they are scaring them away
I have mentioned this before and it was the number 1 thing keeping me from getting a Mac for so long. It’s none of you (although John gets close sometimes and Josh wishes he did), but it’s the others. Perfect example would be Mr. Daring Fireball who, just last week, got close to 20K views on picture at Flickr that described his true hatred for the menu bar.
You should check the article out. It’s a good read and all of it’s true. And, in my opinion (whoa, I can still spell that), all of those items need to change before Apple gets serious traction in the PC World. Sure, market share is up, but how much more can they get? 1%? 5%? Big deal, especially when Dell and IBM rule the business and HP and Gateway can barely keep CostCo stocked.
And don’t even get me started on the gOS PC. That thing is going to seriously cut into everyones sales this Christmas season, assuming they can build them fast enough.
