Yea, spent a good 30 minutes makin’ what would have been a kickin’ mix to listen to as I drive to San Diego for AutoX at (gulp!) 5:30 AM. But alas, I’m fresh out of blank CD’s! And it’s too late to run across the street and borrow one from the neighbor. Although I’m pretty sure that I live on the least technical street on the planet. Hell, the lass doesn’t even have a computer at home! AcK! Yea, I knew there was something wrong with that girl. hehe
So, I inspired this guy to switch his MINI blog to wordpress. I’m diggin’ it myself, and you know how I like to spread the word (ahem, Mozilla FireFox?). It is fairly helpful if you have a minor grasp on CSS before attempting to make any mods, but once you get passed that, the interface is clean and simple, it’s fast and dynamic (which means you don’t have to publish). Of course, if you aren’t afraid of digging through the codes, making minor mods to main page is also equally simple (add or remove modules, re-arrange items) and there are already quite a few plugins that are pretty nifty too.
People are still driving like complete and total idiots on the road. It is really starting to piss me off.
Qwest finally pulled the plug on the T-1 line at the office. Back to the dial-up like speeds of the Earthlink DSL. Man I wish we had copper in the ground instead of iron. Sheesh. This should be temporary while SBC gets everything ramped up for us instead.
I’ve got way more, but I’m going to rustle me up some chow.
I want to start with quite the nifty MyphpAdmin utility I have found to date. It’s an MD5 generator, which is extra super handy for generating encrypted passwords for those neat php devices we use on our sites (WordPress, phpBB, VBulletin, blah blah blah).
More site news. Finished upgrading dbmini.us to the WordPress system as well. This is almost the easiest blog tool to setup, configure and use that I have found yet. Installation takes about 5 minutes. Setup for mySql tables is simple (you only need to create a table and a user). Then it’s done. To change the look, you just mod the CSS file and boom. I had to tinker a bit more to remove some of the features I didn’t want (calendar, user registration), but that was just a matter of remarking out the code.
Had to so some bug killin’ today, so the lad and I had to find something to do for a few hours. So, we went to the movies and The Bourne Identity. It was good, and the butler did it. Don’t worry, it won’t spoil it for you if you haven’t seen it yet.
I am really digging WordPress so far. I’ve almost got the layout figured out, plus I have been able to add static pages to it as well. And, the best part? they are still editable from the WP interface.
Yea, doesn’t take much for me.
To answer a question, my oldest niece didn’t get to partake in the fully stocked bar in the limo.
Met with SBC today about picking up where the honorably fucked up Norvergence left off. Yea, sure am glad this wasn’t mine. One of the owners got sucked in by the promise of unlimited use cell phones and cheap long distance for a savings of $200 a month. Well, since norvergence has filled for bankrupcy protection, we still need to do something for communications.
So SBC and Cingular come out today. With pricing. Pricing that is almost $400 per month better than the Norvergence set up. Besides that, it’s the phone company man. I would be surprised if they filed for bankrupcy protection.
Oh yea, anyone else left with about $65K in lease payments for a system that never got fully set up and doesn’t have a company behind it to provide support? Anyone? Anyone?
Yesterday was the 10th birthday of my oldest niece. For her celebration, she wanted to go to Medieval Times.
I met the whole crew there after they rolled up in a super-duper triple stretch Lincoln Limo, complete with 27″ LCD TV, DVD player and Dolby Audio (oh yea, plus a fully stocked bar). Just about the nicest limo I’ve ever seen.
For those of you that have yet to experience this place, it is a dinner show, complete with horses, centered during, you guessed it, Medieval Times! Knights, the King, The Princess, Sires and wenches. All inside of a giant castle that is not but 5 minutes from Knott’s Berry farm.
You arrive and walk into the building. Upon walking in, you are assigned a section, which is denoted by the use of really cheesy paper crowns, ala Burger King. We had Red/Yellow, which put us dead center of the action. YEA!
After that, it’s time to take a picture with the Princess. Everyone has to do this so that the MT can have the opportunity to gouge you for the pic during the evenings meal. Oh yea, to the tune of $15.00. I skipped the pic entirely.
There are a few bars inside, plus a gift shop and a place where you can even purchase what looked like real swords (pronounce the ‘W’ and I will kill you myself). We had a few beers that required a second mortgage to pay for before heading in.
Once inside the show and meal begin. First of all, this place does not stock forks, knives or spoons. Yes, that’s right, you get to head with your hands. It makes it tough with the soup (it kept falling through my fingers) but the rest was prefectly messy and quite thoroughly enjoyable. And sis did manage to get us real kick-ass seats. Imagine being on the blue line during a hockey game. Yea, those were our seats.
The show itself was very well rehearsed and fairly impressive. Crowd participation is highly encouraged, and everyone was yelling and screaming to the hearts content. My only complaint was the complete and total lack of bloodshed, which I think would have added to the realism. But, I’m sure that OSHA had other ideas.
Overall, I’d say it was an enjoyable evening. The place rated pretty high on db’s creepy clown scale until the show started, so it isn’t someplace I will be returning to voluntarily anytime soon. But if you haven’t been, it’s worth giving a go.
